As generative AI tools like ChatGPT become more prevalent across industries, many organizations are eager to explore their potential. But knowing where to start can be daunting. For one global learning and capability development team, interest in generative AI was high, but practical application was low. While 92% of participants felt motivated to explore Gen AI in their roles, 69% lacked clarity on how to evaluate it for appropriate, compliant use. Furthermore, 62% of users engaged with ChatGPT only monthly or less.
This hesitancy wasn’t due to lack of interest. It stemmed from a combination of uncertainty, limited access to safe tools, and a lack of structured training. To compound the challenge, this cohort was geographically dispersed across the globe, meaning the training solution had to be both virtual and adaptable to a range of schedules, along with skill levels and responsibilities.
We developed and launched a Community of Practice (CoP) focused on Gen AI: a flexible, asynchronous learning program designed to activate meaningful use and confidence in AI tools. The program was designed not just to instruct, but to engage and empower, creating a psychologically safe space for exploration and experimentation.
Core components included:
This format enabled learners to move from theory to practice, discovering low-risk, high-impact ways to bring Gen AI into their daily workflows.
The results of the program were transformational. Prior to training, only a third of participants used ChatGPT regularly. Afterward, 92% reported using ChatGPT at least weekly, with over half using it daily.
Participants overwhelmingly reported that Gen AI now:
Most significantly, 100% of participants agreed or strongly agreed they now feel activated as Gen AI users.
