Organizations today face increasing pressure to deliver results in an environment defined by complexity and rapid change. However, leadership effectiveness remains a critical gap: only 30% of employees feel their leaders are effective, and global engagement has dropped to 21%, costing businesses an estimated $438 billion in lost productivity annually. The good news? Investing in leadership development works. Companies that prioritise leadership development report 25% higher organisational performance29% higher retention, and 21% greater profitability. Strengths-based approaches amplify these gains even further. Gallup’s meta-analysis of 1.2 million employees found that teams using strengths-based development see up to 19% higher sales29% higher profits, and 15% lower turnover [keevee.com][exec.com]  [thefederation.org].

These numbers tell a clear story: strengths-based leadership isn’t just a coaching trend, it’s a proven driver of engagement, innovation, and bottom-line results.

More and more of our clients are engaging in strengths assessments to understand how they can drive such results for themselves and for their business.

I’ve been reflecting on two brilliant experiences lately that I’d love to share.

Story 1: Becoming More of Yourself

One leader I worked with stands out vividly. She was talented, ambitious, and deeply committed to her role. But she came to me convinced that to succeed, she needed to be more direct and forceful, because that’s what she saw in other successful leaders around her. She believed that adopting this style was the only way to gain respect and drive results.

Through a strengths assessment, we uncovered something different. Her greatest strengths were her ability to inspire others, build trust, and create accountability through relationships. Instead of trying to mimic a style that felt unnatural, we focused on elevating these strengths. She learned how to set clear expectations while maintaining her collaborative approach, and how to use her natural influence to motivate her team.

The transformation was remarkable. Not only did her confidence soar, but her team’s engagement and performance improved significantly. She didn’t need to become someone else, she needed to become more of herself.

Story 2: Moving Beyond Assimilation to True Inclusion

Another Leader faced a different challenge: improving inclusion within his team. On the surface, everyone was “included”, they were invited to meetings and physically present. But the team was experiencing assimilation, not true inclusion. People weren’t bringing their unique perspectives to the table, and siloed thinking was stifling innovation.

Through a strengths assessment, we discovered the root cause: the leader wasn’t recognizing or leveraging individual strengths. Together, we worked on understanding the diverse talents within the team and coaching him to draw out those strengths in others. He learned how to create space for different voices, encourage contributions based on unique capabilities, and celebrate varied approaches.

The impact was profound. Meetings shifted from passive attendance to active engagement. Team members felt valued for their individuality, and as a result, collaboration deepened and innovation flourished. Inclusion became more than a checkbox, it became a driver of creativity and performance.

Why Strengths Matter

These experiences reinforce what research tells us: when Leaders understand and apply their strengths (and those of their teams) they unlock authenticity, resilience, and impact. Strengths-based development isn’t about ignoring weaknesses, it’s about amplifying what works and using it strategically. It creates leaders who are confident in their unique value and capable of inspiring others.

How We Bring This to Life

Our strengths assessment is the starting point for this transformation. It provides clarity and actionable insights that make coaching conversations more meaningful. Whether in individual coaching or group workshops, we help leaders:

  • Identify their natural talents
  • Apply them to real-world challenges
  • Build teams that thrive on complementary strengths

When leaders lead from their strengths, teams become more engaged, collaboration improves, and organizations see measurable results. It’s not just development, it’s a cultural shift toward authenticity and performance.
